How to get to Bucerias?

It's a great question. If you already did it, it is very good news because it means that you want to visit us!

And to help you in this task, we leave you the most frequent ways of how you can get to Bucerías, from different areas of Mexico and from other countries. This way you will know approximate prices and transfer times so that you can make the best option.

🇲🇽 From Guadalajara

Guadalajara is one of the most important and most populous cities in Mexico. It is also the largest and closest to Bucerias and Banderas Bay.

That is why many “tapatíos” visit us every month and, if you come to visit us from there, the best options are:

🚎 Bus

If you want to travel by land, the bus is a very good alternative. You are not driving, you do not have to worry about the toll booths and you can enjoy the scenery and, why not, sleep.

From the Nueva Central Camionera de Guadalajara you can take buses from the lines Primera Plus or ETN, which have trips throughout the day, even overnight (arriving first thing in the morning). Prices vary between $640 and $690 Mexican pesos (between $30 and $35 USD).

BUT, these arrive in Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Nayarit, not directly to Bucerías. Then you would have to take a local bus, taxi, Uber or rent a car.

Do you want to go directly to Bucerías from Guadalajara? Then you have to go to the Tlaquepaque central, from where buses of the line Vallarta Plus. These have several departures daily and the prices are similar to Primera Plus and ETN. The best of all? Is that they leave you one block from downtown Bucerias!

The travel time, regardless of the bus line, is between 5 and 6 hours. It all depends on the time you leave and the traffic leaving Guadalajara.

✈️ Airplane

The fastest way to get to Bucerias. From the Guadalajara airport there are several flights a day and these arrive at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

The best airlines to fly direct are VivaAerobus and Aeromar. On average the tickets have a cost of 100 USD, but check the rates beforehand as these can vary depending on the season of the year in which you want to travel.

🚘 Car

Whether you are renting or traveling in your own car, the road trip takes approximately 5 hours (Depending on the traffic you find at the exit of the city and on the highway). The costs may vary if you travel by paid road or not.

🇺🇸 From the United States and Canada

There are some adventurers who come by car from the United States and even from Canada. The distances and times will vary depending on where you leave from, but without a doubt it will be a trip full of beautiful landscapes.

But the most common option is the airway. From cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago or Denver, there are daily flights (with frequencies from 3, like Denver, to 15, like Los Angeles) and direct to Puerto Vallarta.

Always check the schedules and prices before planning your trip, as they may vary depending on the season of the year in which you want to visit us.

🏝 From Puerto Vallarta

If you are or arrive first in Puerto Vallarta, there are a variety of alternatives to get to Bucerías. Here we show you the most used and safest:

🚎 Local transport (ATM)

From downtown Puerto Vallarta and at different stops in the city, you can take public transportation, the famous local ATM buses (el “camión”).

This transport line works all day long and is the cheapest alternative of all (on average it costs $15 Mexican pesos, just over USD 2).

ATM Bucerias
Local transport (ATM)

The journey can vary between about 45 minutes to just over an hour. Everything will depend on the traffic that there is at the time of taking it.

🚙 Uber

This application, used around the world, can also be found and used from Puerto Vallarta to Bucerías.

We recommend that, if you arrive at the Vallarta International Airport, ask for the Uber but take it outside the premises, because it is not allowed to enter.

Rates will depend on the time you travel and the travel time.

🚖 Taxis

Whether from the airport or from anywhere else in the city, you can find taxis that can bring you here.

They charge between USD 20-30 and the journey time varies due to traffic but it can take between 30 min and an hour.

🚗 Rent a car

Another good alternative if you also want to move freely and get to know other nearby towns and beaches.

If you arrive by plane, right there at the airport you can find the best-known rental companies in the market, such as Hertz, Avis, among others.

The daily cost is between USD 30-40 and, with an application that helps you get to Bucerías, it could take something similar to what a taxi does.

🇲🇽 From Mexico City (CDMX)

The capital of Mexico. The great Mexico City. If you are there and want to come and enjoy the Mexican paradise of the Pacific, these are the best options:

Ángel de la Independencia, CMDX

🚘 Car

It is probably not the most common option among visitors to Bucerías or the Riviera Nayarit, but if you decide to travel by car, keep in mind that the trip takes between 9 and 11 hours of driving. This, without considering intermediate stops, which add hours to the trip.

You also have to keep in mind that, if you want to save time, you can go through the toll roads with toll booths. In total, it's about $2,000 Mexican pesos, without taking into account gasoline.

If you have already decided to take your car and come to visit us, come carefully, rested, respecting traffic laws and enjoy the trip, since you will pass through different states with many beautiful landscapes.

🚍 Bus

The second most chosen option from CDMX.

From bus lines such as ETN or Primera Plus, trips to Bucerías depart daily. In this option, also consider the travel time (between 11 and 13 hours), the cost of the ticket (between $1,380 and $1,470 Mexican pesos) and that there are only old women at night. They leave from CDMX between 7:30 PM and 10 PM and arrive in Nuevo Vallarta (the closest they get to Bucerías) between 7 and 9:30 AM the next day.

In any case, always before traveling, check the trips and availability.

🛫 Airplane

The most chosen option among those who visit us from CDMX.

Airlines such as VivaAerobus, AeroMéxico or Volaris have direct flights that take an average of 1 hour 35 minutes. They have daily flights and arrive at the Puerto Vallarta airport.

Prices vary by season (and if you find a good deal) but, in general, they start at $1,500 Mexican pesos.

🌏 From other international destinations

Are you coming from England, Spain, South America or another destination outside of Mexico? Just like from the United States or even within the country (and if you want to travel directly here), you have to arrive at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

Some airlines can make previous stops, but the destination is Vallarta, to then arrive in Bucerías.
